A new farm truck

It is exactly like buying a new farm truck. You consider the features and styles, research the latest engine updates, and evaluate the make and model. When the time is right to up-grade you will know. You jump in the drivers seat and take it for a test drive. Adjusting to the new vehicle will take some time, but with patience it will adjust to you. It will allow you to do things you never thought possible. It can even boost your physical capabilities. For those of you who have shopped for a new farm truck, you'll know what Gus feels like today.

Gus has invested in a new lung support Phillips V60 ventilator. Gus is getting used to the new feel and air pressures as his lungs continue to heel. He can be moved and positioned in his bed for comfort and play. The old trusty ventilator sits in the corner of the room, just as your old farm truck is parked in the field. Both 'old reliables' are ready to go back to work if we need them.

Gus is taking steps to recovery and with every step he amazes mom, dad, nurses and doctors. Being off the breathing tube is a sigh of relief. This morning Gus's physical therapist brought a special off-the-ventilator surprise; a Gus-sized chair! Gus can be mobile in a wheel chair. Helpers safely strapped him in the chair and we took a cruise around the PICU. The Gus parade stopped at all his favorite nurses who were so excited to see him. Gus looked out the largest window of our unit and was happy to see outside. He liked the working construction trucks and the cars driving by. We are looking forward to more trips out of the hospital room and hopefully soon out of the PICU. As his mommy, I am looking forward for the moment that I can hold my baby in my arms again. I will wait till he is well enough, and cherish the moment forever.
