The Road Not Taken

Two roads diverged in a yellow wood,
And sorry I could not travel both
And be one traveler, long I stood
And looked down one as far as I could
To where it bent in the undergrowth;
Then took the other, as just as fair,
And having perhaps the better claim,
Because it was grassy and wanted wear;
Though as for that the passing there
Had worn them really about the same,
And both that morning equally lay
In leaves no step had trodden black.
Oh, I kept the first for another day!
Yet knowing how way leads on to way,
I doubted if I should ever come back.
I shall be telling this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two roads diverged in a wood, and I—
I took the one less traveled by,
And that has made all the difference.

I recall when our family looked down two different paths. One seemed glittery with family flora, complete with portrait worthy expressions. The other path was grey with mistakes and challenges; wrinkles painted over frowns. I ponder the day our walk down the uneven path started. Recalling our scared and blanched feelings hurts just as it did that day. From the breach, the path presented gritty cracks and rocky encounters. Underneath our feet the path was falling alone, taking hope with it. A lift of our heads leads us onto stable ground. In the middle of our path life was created with all its rarity.
We are taking the road less traveled by, and it is making all the difference. Surrounding our path is a bright complexion of love. Scars shine a hue of official red, recoiling our strength. Standing as a family reflects a solid blue, quoting our confidence. Gus gleams golden miracle, reminding us of our faith. We walk on a beautiful road, full of thanks and rejoice. The road NEVER taken will be Gus's claim. The same day we packed to leave the hospital a meeting was taking place between lead doctors and surgeons. Gus's story was told during this meeting to share his success and recovery. The hope is that his account will help children in the future have the same outcome. His landmarks will probably reach hospitals on a national and global level. The road Gus accompanies is for a reason we probably can't even imagine yet. For now, we acknowledge the blessings to the path's side. We make merry every step and and receive each lesson. |
