  1. Dear Gustus,
I need to tell you something that won't make you very happy. . . . When you were sleeping and unable to defend yourself, I clipped your toenails! I'm sorry.
    Love you, Mommy

This is one of my favorite stories of you. I was tending you and I needed to clean my bathroom. I was afraid you would get the bathroom cleaner on you so I got all your toys and put you in my shower ( its a glass shower). At first you thought it was fun. Aunt Hi was making blowfishes on the glass, you thought that was way funny. By the time I was done cleaning, you were DONE being locked in the shower and you were yelling at me. Although I couldn't understand a dang thing you were saying I could tell by the scowl on your face you were not happy with the situation. I opened the shower door, you stomped out and directly into my walk in closet. Grabbing the closet door you peaked your little head out at me, and with your meanest voice said "bye" and slammed the closet door. I was laughing the whole time. Not 30 seconds later I hear the tiniest knock on the door and your little voice "Hi, Hi". I open the closet door and you come running out, you weren't mad at me anymore. I have never seen a 2 year old eat humble pie until that day!
I love you Gustus! I cant guarantee I wont lock you in the shower again but I miss you and your funny little personality. Get better quick.
    Love Aunt Hi (Heidi)

  3. As the past three weeks have gone by, we've experienced many positives and negatives but we listen to Gus's mom, who says ALWAYS stay Optimistic! I have learned so much from my beautiful daughter and son in law. They have not left this baby's side. Gus has wonderful parents and they have such strength as I have never seen before. We watched John Wayne last night "True Grit". Some of the meanings for true grit are, strength of mind, courage under fire, brave and tough in the face of adversity. It is not a learned conviction, you either "got it" or you don't. Curt, Dusty and our little man Gus you "got it"! I would like to express my gratitude to everyone who has offered support to our families. Thank you! The outcome of Gus's day out would have been so different if it wasn't for the endless prayers, very powerful! Thank you! I know there were angels involved right from the first minute Gus was in trouble. Thank you for your part in getting us all to this place where we know, there is nothing more important than family! 1. Dear Gus, you are such a cute little stink! We missed you this year for Halloween. I can remember you and your mom (I don't remember if your Dad was with you or not) coming to our house on your very first Halloween to meet up with your cousins and friends to go trick or treating for the first time. You were such a cute little monkey and last year when we all met at grandpa Mike and grandma Dana's for another year of trick or treating. I'm sure you were the cutest little Mickey Mouse there was this year. We're so excited to hear and read the updates that your momma posts and can't wait to hear the news that you're leaving the hospital and hope it comes real soon! Keep making the great strides and improvements that you have. You and your family are in our thoughts everyday! Love the Snedden's

  6. Gustus,
It has been such an awesome priveledge to watch you grow and continue to get stronger. I remember a couple times that I came to visit, and ended up having to bribe/distract you so that I could get my keys back. I remember when you made me feel important because you introduced me to Gie and Pal. You are two years old, and already know how to make people feel special. I can't wait to see the continual impact you will make in other people's lives. You're are an outstanding little man. Keep on fighting, learning, and growing. You're an amazing little guy!
    Love- Calee

  7. Dear Gus,
As nice and quiet as little Morgan County is, with the mountains, farms, construction, an Interstate and rivers and lakes there's a lot of chances for bad things to happen. Unfortunately, being a Police Officer, we have to see all the bad things that happen to good people. Even more unfortunate is that we eventually get used to the things we see. One thing that I will never get used to, that will never "go away", is the sight of a lifeless child. When your call came over the radio my heart sunk. It had been a bad couple of months for the first responders in Morgan. We learn very quickly to "hope for the best but expect the worst." When I arrived on scene and saw you lying on the grass it hit me much harder than in any other call like this before, because now I have a 2 year old of my own.
I have no doubt that that day was full of miracles. From the temperature of the water, your grandma getting you closer to the road, the neighbors who helped with CPR and directed us to the right spot, the E.R. nurse who suddenly showed up to help me and the helicopter pilot who knew right where to go despite the fact that I couldn't give him GPS coordinates... (You'll have to ask your mommy what "coordinates" means :) )
Seeing a hurt child is something that is very hard to get over, especially when you have one of your own. I want your mom to know that seeing these updates for you has helped me heal as much as your doctors are helping you and your story makes me hug my little boy a little tighter every day! Your strength is an inspiration to all of us at the Sheriff's Office. Keep it up! We hope to hear that you'll be home soon!

  8. Dear Gus

A little over a month ago was the scariest day of my life. Granny pulled on our lawn with you on her lap asking for help. You had fallen in the water, Mitch and I ran to help granny. Granny and Mitch worked on your sweet little body to keep you here with your family while I was on the phone with 911 to get more help for you. We were so scared and so sad to see you so hurt. As the days went by Aunt Heidi, Aunt Jodi and papa Mike would call or stop by to tell us all the wonderful progress you were making and how strong you were being. Such a big boy to handle such a bad hurt. Daddy called one day and we were invited to come visit you. We were so happy that we were going to get the chance to see how well you were doing. Mitch and I came to your room with fun presents to help you better enjoy your time in the hospital. It was a true miracle to see your sweet smile and beautiful blue eyes. So happy to have visitors. We played, we talked and most importantly we got high fives when it was time to leave. Gus you are an amazing little cowboy and we are so proud of all you have done to get better. Keep up the good work and see you soon, we are going to be neighbors!!!!!! I can't wait it will be fun to see you more often.

I don't feel knots in my belly anymore because I see now how well he is doing...not to mention your mom can rest without me texting her every 5 minutes wondering how he's doing. That is a bad ou-ey, you need to go where Gus is";) get better little buddy so you can come home and play with us:)
